WHERE CHAMPIONS PRACTICE SELF-REGULATION

GET STARTED TODAY!

One of the pride factors of us Jamaicans is our world class sprinters.
Both men and women are world dominant in their achievements.
One of the things we do not see is the discipline and training they perform to maintain that winning edge. Now, just suppose we Jamaicans adopted those principles of discipline and training in all the walks of our life, what difference would that make to the performance and quality of life.

The term “me little but me talawah” would have fresh meaning.

This possibility is the dream and aspiration of some devoted Jamaicans who see our potential, but cry at our below standard life achievements. So as difference makers, they are devoting their time, talents, and treasure to raise the talawah factor of our culture by installing an online platform where our national talawah possibilities can be nurtured.

The power of self-regulation will be shared, nurtured and encouraged.

Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage your own behavior, thoughts, and emotions in order to achieve your long term goals.

Self-regulation helps our children and teenagers learn, behave well, get along with others and become independent.

Self-regulation for the toddler and preschooler years can be nurtured. It continues to develop into adulthood, bringing our generational transformation. Train up a child in the way he or she should go, and when they are older, they will not depart from it.

Ways to develop your child's self-regulation include talking, planning, problem-solving and role-modeling will be shared.

God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7)

About Us
Wait and Win” was adapted from the Southern Baptist’s “True Love Waits” programme.  It was spearheaded in 2000 by Dr. Ann Marie Walters-Smith with other concerned citizens of Mandeville, Jamaica, including several other medical practitioners.

The initiative was in response to a significant number of early pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) occurring in adolescents and young people.  After writing to the Ministry of Education, permission was given for the programme to be taken into the schools.

Since then, the Wait and Win team has gone into several primary, all-age, and high schools in the parish of Manchester with a goal in mind of making a positive impact on these young lives through education and motivation.

Topics have included STI’s, sexual abstinence, mental health, substance abuse, and self-worth. We believe that every child is “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God (Psalm 139:14). With that in mind, our purpose is to encourage our Jamaican children to live a life that honours God and live out their full purpose and potential under God’s guidance.

Wait and Win” wants to see our young people thrive with a bright future not just for themselves, but for their families, communities, and nation.

Our Team

Dr.Ann Marie Walters Smith is a medical doctor (pediatrician). She spearheaded the “Wait and Win” ministry in 2000 as a result of seeing our young people make choices that negatively affected their health (such as sexually transmitted infections and early pregnancies), and that limited their potential for a brighter future under God’s guidance. As a pediatrician, she is devoted not just to the medical well-being of children , but to their emotional and spiritual well-being as well.

Mrs.Elaine Cook is a retired Public Health Nurse and has a certificate in Christian Education from Jamaica Bible College (Regent College of the Caribbean).  She is also trained in Child Evangelism.  Having invited Jesus into her heart since age 9, she is passionate to see children and young people give their lives to Christ.

Mr.Michael Chambers is retired patent examiner in computer engineering. He has taught mathematics at both the high school and university levels. At church, he serves as a deacon and is involved in a programme to mentor preteen boys. His passions also include prayer and evangelism.

Dr.Sandra Chambers is a medical doctor (family physician).  Her passions include reaching out to children and youth to see them fulfill their God ordained purpose.  She teaches Sunday School and is involved in the Prayer and Fasting and Visitation ministries at church.

Ms.Verneita Small has been actively involved in various ministries in her church and community for many years.  These include hospital, infirmary and police lock-up visits to minister to those in need of guidance and comfort.  She is passionate about seeing our youth thrive.
